Sometimes, the villain likes to get a laugh in. Infrequently, the villain gets the last laugh, but when they do get their laughs in, you know you’re going to be etched with their echoing laughs for a long time. We wanted to honour those bad people who wanted nothing more than to show us how much they enjoyed messing with our heroes, in this week’s Top 10 Evil Laughs list.
Exploration requires a certain set of characteristics; bravery, wisdom and overall survivability. You need to be brave to go somewhere uncharted, you need to be wise so you don’t eat something that’ll hurt you and you need to be able to survive, so you can return and tell of your exploits. Well, in today’s Top 10 list, we’re focusing on these brave individuals who’ve seen uncharted territories – and come back to tell us all about it. (more…)

As The Simpsons draws to a much needed close and after the moderate success of Futurama’s reboot, in many ways I’m glad to see Matt Groening try something different, although in a handful of ways I’m trepidatious. On the one hand we’re applying the beloved comedy that took cartoons in the west to prime time television for decades, to a genre that I have always had a weakness for. On the other hand, that comedy has been getting a little tired after three decades of dominating television.
Nevertheless, I sat and watched Disenchantment. At just a handful of episodes, the whole thing took me less than a day, and gave me a respite from the constant – and I mean constant – marathon of Critical Role I’m currently on. And it also took me by surprise, because I genuinely laughed. I shouldn’t be surprised that a Groening creation makes me laugh, and yet I can’t remember the time I had to double back to watch something because I laughed out loud through some dialogue.
A series that goes on too long can be a terrible thing; from an unnecessary deviation from the plot, through to repetition of the show. What may have had a promising start, ultimately, is turning into a slog, rather than an enjoyable show to continue watching. Naturally, a series isn’t even limited to film and TV, but rather all mediums.
You are all a strange bunch, as you all picked this Top 10 after last week’s Series That Ended Too Soon. So, from getting soppy at last week’s list, to us going “Oh god, why is/was that going on so long”, this week’s Top 10 Series That Went On Too Long is all thanks to you. Thanks, folks. Let’s begin the list!
They came from another world with an irrational hatred of the bawling apes crawling on the blue planet in orbit around a yellow sun. It’s almost as if we’ve been bombarding the local area with a wide variety of radio signals that could be decoded to discover angry, hate-filled or generally annoying content. Frankly we don’t feel there’s any need for the death beams and intimate probing, the whole thing has been a whole over-reaction, we’re not the bad guys here, and we have the films to prove that out of everyone else in the galaxy, we’re the heroes.
Hunker down, and arm yourselves, as we play host to the intrusive outsiders from beyond the stars and life from places that defy understanding. Welcome to the Top 10 alien invasions.
You voted for it, you can’t unvote for it!
Although actually I must say that despite our initial terror, this may well have been our most easily decided list to date. Tim and I working in some bizarre mental concert, as though our very grey matter were some sort of colony, a thriving collaboration a… oh, what’s the term I’m looking for?
