We got techy and we got talking in another successful GeekOut Bristol Meet. It was a fun, eventful night, which saw our crew getting use of the brand new garden at the Old Market Tavern, which looks stunning. If you’re in Bristol and you have a chance to visit the tavern, please do go and enjoy a beverage in the garden – Well worth it. Nevertheless, as ever, we held our GeekOut Bristol Meet and this month, I didn’t get many pictures..! With that in mind, instead of today being called a gallery, I’m calling it a summary! Also, we got a new game, so check back tomorrow for a full review.
I’ve been asked a few times about how we get it done; how every month, without fail, we’ve managed to run a GeekOut Bristol Meet since 2013. How every month, I manage to get a large collection of geeks to a pub. How we manage to get people playing games, people drinking and eating together – and most importantly, how on Earth do we get such a good atmosphere? I can’t answer all of these questions (trade secrets), but if you’re looking to run your own Meetup event somewhere, perhaps this is food for thought?
We’re back for a much more techy GeekOut Bristol Meet – This month, we’ll be celebrating all that is tech. So whether you’re a gaming enthusiast, or a Pi-Purist, bring your gadgets and gizmos (but not the gremlin sorts) and let’s get to it! Expect to see more than you were expecting, from hardware, gadgets, code – and hey, one of our prizes will even be a BBC Micro Go. Interested? Read on!
Get out your Sonic Screwdrivers folks, this month we celebrated all of the great Gallifreyans of the Doctor Who universe. It was a fun meet, filled with Doctors, geeky conversation and lots and lots of board games. The competition was pretty difficult, thankfully, but some mega-fans came through and absolutely killed it! But, like all of our events, they eventually have to come to a close and roll on midnight, we closed up and disappeared in our TARDIS… Or… You know, we drove away in a car.
Jump into your TARDIS and make your way to May’s GeekOut Bristol Meet, where we get all timey-wimey with the good doctors of Bristol! This month will be filled with dangerous Daleks, Cruel Cybermen and some curiously fine scarves! Join us for another 10 hour long event (exclusing our 2 hour pre-meetup), where we’re going to enjoy some good food and drink, followed by some excellent games and geeky conversations.
For nearly a century, Disney has been providing us all with top notch entertainment in the form of beautiful art, exceptional animation and great storytelling. All in all then, Disney is pretty much one of the most recognisable names in the world, proving that adding a dose of magic into peoples lives will sometimes sell incredibly well. It’s with this in mind that we held this month’s GeekOut Bristol Meet to the theme of Disney and we got a new game out, which was heavily Disney influenced itself. As ever, welcome to our monthly gallery post!
Disney has been a prominent part of pop culture for nearly a century. In fact, in 7 years time, it’ll be 100 years old. Today, GeekOut Bristol Meet proudly presents to you a majestic Disney-inspired meetup! Whether you’re the Belle of the ball, or if you fancy yourself to be more like Gaston, even though there’s no other like Gaston, come along and show us how you’re as uncanny as Gaston! Oh – and come enjoy a Disney-inspired GeekOut Bristol Meet.
Everyone loves a good cosplay, along with the cosplayers who come up with genius ways to make their favourite characters come to life. In the past 10 years, cosplay has become part of every day fandom. Looking back to the past, we must thank people such as Forrest J Ackerman for his contributions to the now flourishing scene. As part of the growing part of fan communities that incorporates cosplay, we thought we’d celebrate costume making – by getting people to make their own costumes at this months meet… With paper… and card… and sellotape… And other cheap bits of materials that people brought along. People rose to the challenge and boy, was it ever an excellent event?
Can you believe by the end of the month, it’ll have been a whole year since we had the very first event in our second location, Shrewsbury? It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride, with people joining the new event very quickly. All of this has been made possible by our very own Joel, who has worked meticulously on the meetup events. This article is a simple look back at the first year they had, along with a thank you to Joel for his hard work.
Friends, I am afraid there has been a blight upon this land, so evil it is that we cannot imagine how to deal with it. This is why I have called you all here once more, to assist us in vanquishing the villainous warlocks and sorcerers, the fallen knights and their undead companions. Join us, for we have a tale for you. A tale of heroics unlike ever seen before will unfold. We’re going Castle Crashing!
