Sometimes, the villain likes to get a laugh in. Infrequently, the villain gets the last laugh, but when they do get their laughs in, you know you’re going to be etched with their echoing laughs for a long time. We wanted to honour those bad people who wanted nothing more than to show us how much they enjoyed messing with our heroes, in this week’s Top 10 Evil Laughs list.

Review – The Killing Joke

Content Warning: For those of you unfamiliar with it, the Killing Joke is one of the grimmest Batman stories ever put to paper, and deals with some hard hitting issues. I will be discussing them. And also spoiling substantial chunks, but this is now an eighteen year old comic… so…

Though DC’s live action films might be fighting a war on two fronts, I’ve grown rather addicted to their recent efforts in animation. Flashpoint Crisis, Gods and Monsters, Assault on Arkham, and a few others that have piqued my interest. It’s been well worth a watch, delving into some of the more complex sides of the DC universe, seeing how they run off their own internal logic, and seeing the interplay of the world’s mightiest heroes. I’d have to say that the Justice League’s inter-personal dynamic is stronger by far than the personalities of any of the individuals, maybe even better than that of the Avengers. (more…)


Getting Into Character

As I’ve grown older I’ve come to more deeply appreciate the role of the director in the film industry, to the point where I’ll look for the directors credentials on a new film before I give much thought to the actors involved. That said, there’s a real difference when an actor actually enjoys what they’re doing and the characters that they’re playing.

For The Love Of It

Some actors just straight up love what they do, and as geek culture grows stronger and more and more celebrities get insanely passionate about those characters that they always wanted to play from comics. We all know I’m talking about Ryan Reynolds, but he’s not the only one. (more…)
