GeekOut Bristol Meet – October 12th: Spectre Waltz Gallery

October, a month for the spooky and the macabre. A month when children dress up like the little monsters they are, whilst asking for sugar to make them even more energetic. However, it’s not just the kids who get into the spirit of Halloween. Us grown adults still love a good excuse to throw a costume on and to decorate the place, making it a spooky spectacular for all involved. Yeah, alright, I didn’t have much in the way to make the place spookier, but we certainly did have the right people come along, helping us by making the place a Halloween haven – And we were just under three weeks early!

Japan Crate: Halloween ’17 Edition (Trick or Treat Box)

Another month has passed, which means it’s time for us to have another look at our Japan Crate. Of course, last month being October, there could only be one suitable theme – Halloween! As some of you may be aware, we were doing short stories and the vast majority of articles were Halloween-inspired. When we received our Japan Crate for this month, we immediately realised that we were in for a treat, as the box was purple instead of the usual red. We knew what this meant – As we looked over the box and saw the words “HAPPY HALLOWEEN!” on the side, with a cute little ghost image. So, to the delight of Japan Crate only, I received a Trick box.

Great.

GeekOut Shrewsbury Meet – October ’17

It was a happy Hallowe’en. And it wasn’t even Hallowe’en.

Let it be known that I do not cosplay often… read “ever”, so even my low-energy effort as the “Quest Giving NPC” still took some work but it’s not easy to carve a question mark out of styrofoam, get it painted yellow and affixed to a headband securely enough in between all the writing and full-time-job-having. It didn’t quite work out as planned, and five minutes after settling into Sweet and the quest marker was in three useless pieces. I took my frustrations out on Murray’s Magic deck and an oversized milkshake.

Kudos to Murray for his cosplay, he endured his wig, makeup and heels for most of the day, boosted along by the compliments of strangers. Sat next to him I felt woefully under-dressed. (more…)

Video Games & Halloween

Last week, dear reader, we spoke about the dangers of answering the door during All Hallows’ Eve. A time considered by many to be a fun, but devilishly devious. Where degenerates roam the streets, knocking on doors and demanding a delightful treat for making you get out of your cosy, warm living room and to face the dark abyss beyond the door. But not all dangers leave the house. For some, a Wonderland full of games and joy is as bad as a world of hurt and anguish.

With Halloween fast approaching, you may be wondering what costume you could pull off. Should it be a wicked witch, a powerful vampire or hey, perhaps throw a bedsheet over your head and say ‘oOoOo’? Trick or Treat & Halloween

Last week, we warned you of the horror’s of All Hallows Eve, by telling you the tale of Ness and Paula as they encountered the pumpkin villain, the Trick or Trick Kid. But what happens when you’re offered the chance for a treat? What happens when someone says those three fateful words to you: Trick or Treat? After last weeks’ horrific tale, this week comes one even more frightful, as we dive deep into Rapture.

GeekOut Bristol Meet – October 14th: VAMP-TASTICAL! Gallery

Blah! We vant to suck your blood– Oh dear, that’s the worst vampire cliche ever.

We came, we saw, we drank and we dined. GeekOut Bristol Meet was as loud as ever, seemingly slightly busier than usual and with a competition that really seemed to gnaw at everybodies necks. So whilst we were being so merry, time went by so quickly as we had games on the go, people discussing everything, including a rather deep conversation about life in the conservatory. Deep stuff, guys.

Pumpkins & Halloween

As we approach All Hallows’ Eve, tales of ghosts and ghouls become commonplace. Today, I wish to tell you a tale of a young man and a young lady, by the names of Ness and Paula, who fought off unspeakable evils. But before they could take on true evil, they had to overcome fear itself. This time, it wasn’t a ghost or a ghoul, but rather it was the wickedness of humanity itself, with an injection of the macabre. This is the story of Ness and Paula encountering the Trick or Trick Kid.
