Ah yes, once more we went back to the Old Market Tavern and we held our monthly GeekOut Bristol Meet. It was a quieter affair than usual, with approximately 50 people turning up for our event, however the event went off without a hitch. We had a rather good quiz and I got thoroughly out-geeked by the contestants! This is what went down at this months GeekOut Bristol Meet and information about July’s event!
We’re back once again for another month of fun and games, at our usual haunt. However, this time around we’re going to be on the back of the great A’Tuin, upon which stands four enormous elephants. Yes, we’re celebrating the life and literature of Sir Terry Pratchett. So bring along your sapient pearwood Luggage, don’t forget your Wizzard hat and let’s get our fantasy on. But of course, if you’re not a fan of Terry Pratchett, don’t worry, it’s still the same GeekOut Bristol Meet you know and love! But this months competition requires quite a bit of detective work.

They came, they saw and there weren’t many waifuus around. There was some amazing cosplayers, some excellent fandubbing and all in all, it was another successful GeekOut Bristol Meet. With a little over 60 people who came and went through the whole night, it was a great way for us all to get out there, to play lots of board games including a new one. Of course, Quiplash came out for another lot of laughs and boom – You guessed it – I ordered a projector, I set it up the night before, quietly confident and it failed. Nevermind, I’m going to get the correct adapter next time. But in the mean time, what were the highs and the lows of the night?
The law was led down – The evildoers of the world have been vanquished. We went through a super night of fun, games, drinks and geekdom, as well as another of our more creative competitions to date. Yes, it’s that time for us to look back at the competition, as well as the events that unfolded at the GeekOut Bristol Meet that happened this past Friday night. It was a great time for all involved, that’s for sure!
Up there in the skies! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s just the GeekOut Bristol Meet attendees flying over to the Old Market Tavern for a night of fun, games, drinks, discussion and much, much more. But of course, not everyone knows what we get up to during our meetups, so if you’re new to what we do, or if you’re simply curious about what’s going down this month, then join us today for a quick chat about what’s new, what’s not and what’s hot about this upcoming meetup.
A much smaller affair than we’re used to but it was a pleasant evening, filled with gaming goodness, books and lots of discussion. I was challenged to a battle on Pokémon Sun & Moon, where I lost spectacularly. We introduced a new board game to fit our theme and we also showed off a gift GeekOut received, as well as an expansion to an existing favourite.
Exploding Kittens got an upgrade! Yes, for those of you who have followed Exploding Kittens at all will be familiar with the expansion, Implosing Kittens. This expansion comes with a full sized human cone of shame, as well as lots of silly new cards, which makes the game seriously tactical! From Reverse, which reverses the turn order, letting you skip your go; To the Imploding Kitten itself, which is drawn face down, doesn’t kill you, but goes back in the deck face up, then can’t be defused if you draw it from face up. This was a brilliant addition to an already excellent game.
Our latest GOCollection addition is the classic board game, Scrabble. Pick up a bunch of tiles, create words out of them following a placement system on the board, then score as high as you can. It’s an incredibly simple game which was first introduced to the world in the 1920s.
Being a smaller event than usual, we didn’t hold our competition for the month, but we’re going to do a larger competition at next months event. We were going to hold a competition to perform a 30 second act, in silence, using cue cards and props. We also didn’t see our expected attendance at the pre-meetup. It wasn’t that attendance was bad; We still had 33 people join us, but it looks like the winter month of February might have caused most people to feel down in the dumps.
All going well, info about the next event goes live today, with a superhero thene and an extra big prize in mind, this should be a great event! Share your thoughts below, did you enjoy our event this month? Let us know on Facebook, Twitter or Reddit as well!
