Locked In A Room Bristol

If you’re looking for an event on a day out in the centre of Bristol, I really must talk to you about Bristol’s own escape room experience, Locked in a Room. This weekend, Joel came down from Shrewsbury to join us for the weekend. Meanwhile Kim and Pete from Later Levels travelled from even further afield, so when they joined us as well, we had a team of genuinely excellent people. We may not have been the fastest in the building, but we certainly had fun. Whilst I won’t be spoiling what the story or puzzles were, I’ll share what I learned with you about the what, why and where.

Amecon 2018 – Timlah’s Summary & Gallery

WARNING: This article is incredibly image and video heavy!

AmeCon 2018 was a roaring success in my personal opinion, however the event started off with a few technical issues. Having said that, the crew battled on through those issues to be met with a weekend that had both roaring heat and ridiculous rainfall. The parties were fun, the cosplays were incredible, the guests were wonderful and the panels were all in all great fun (at least the ones I saw). Usually at these events, I don’t spend enough time going to events, usually because I’m in costume myself. For the first time ever, I went to an event with no cosplays, which felt strange, but seriously, it was rewarding to be able to look and appreciate the craft of Cosplay and Japanese fandom as someone looking in again. Read on for more on this year’s experience.

GeekOut Shrewsbury July ’18 – Steampunk’d

Did anyone get a head-count on the day? I think we surpassed thirty which is always a pretty good month, the pre-meet was a grand outdoorsy affair, as befits the season, although gaming wasn’t ideal given the furniture.

But so many of you showed up, and so many of you put the effort into the steampunk theme of the day. Top hats, waistcoats, the finest of attire, and a couple of artistic contributions to the inventors fair. Fun, laughter, games, and general geekery, and so much to do in the long gap between now and August’s Shrewsbury Event. (more…)

Board Games at Tobacco Factory – July 10th

Board Games are still on the rise as of late, where popularity has surged thanks to a hugely changing market. From small games likes Exploding Kittens, through to much larger, more complex games like Catan. In Bristol, a new(ish) shop has been set up, called Rules of Play. Based over in St. Nicholas Market, Rules of Play stock board games and tabletop gifts. However, tomorrow, they’re taking on something much larger. They’re running a gaming session over at The Tobacco Factory – And everyone’s invited!

The Shropshire Dungeon Master Update V – British Ironwork Centre

So, it’s a busy week at the moment, and not looking likely to get quieter for some time. Part of the mad dash has now been and gone as of this Saturday, Dungeons & Dragons played at the British Ironwork Centre near Oswestry, in support of Hope House and Severn Hospice, a pair of local healthcare charities.

This is an event I’ve been working towards for some time, in fact there have been a lot of elements of setting up the business that have rather fallen by the wayside alongside the preparations for this, this week’s GeekOut Shrewsbury meet, and UKGE, and fighting off the classically bad-timed mental health episode. Interest in the event was incredibly high, although actual engagement was low, and attempts to fill up the table for the day were tough, and while a few people who secured spaces were sadly unable to join us, those who played were truly fantastic. The Shropshire Dungeon Master Update IV – Call To Action

This is about as close as I may ever come to an actual diary, this catalogue of my efforts in attempting to turn my hobby into something productive, something that entertains and educates, and allows me to make a living and leave a lasting mark on the RP community.

A little of the future and a little of the present, while I work on tomorrow’s GeekOut… (more…)

GeekOut Bristol Meet – April 13th: Disney Gallery

For nearly a century, Disney has been providing us all with top notch entertainment in the form of beautiful art, exceptional animation and great storytelling. All in all then, Disney is pretty much one of the most recognisable names in the world, proving that adding a dose of magic into peoples lives will sometimes sell incredibly well. It’s with this in mind that we held this month’s GeekOut Bristol Meet to the theme of Disney and we got a new game out, which was heavily Disney influenced itself. As ever, welcome to our monthly gallery post!

Bristol Comic Con – Event Review

As I approached Brunel’s Old Station, I managed to mostly dodge the tail of a large animatronic Raptor as it swished it’s tail back and forth through the crowd outside the station, some of who were just waiting for a bus. Somewhere inside of the large beast must have contained a person, who was no doubt sweating profusely. It approached people of all ages and was very gentle with people of a younger age, who might have been scared.

Upon entering the arena, you could already see there were people from all walks of life and of all ages. It’s always a lovely reminder that the fandoms traverse all ages and all manners of people.

Event Review: Reload, Relive, Replay – March 30th 2018

With an alliterative name, Reload, Relive, Replay was an event that took place in the centre of Bristol this past weekend. From Friday 30th until Saturday 31st at the Bristol Hippodrome, the event boasted four slots in which you could go and enjoy games from a bygone era. Along with that, there were board games, merchandise, current games and even some virtual reality rooms. Taking place in the historic building by the fountains of the city centre, the video game event has now come and gone – But what was it like?
