Another year has passed us by and GameBlast is upon us again. Our friends Kim and Pete over at Later Levels are hard at work preparing a massive stream filled with a variety of games for a whopping 24-hour game fest. I’m always spurred on by these kinds of initiatives, so naturally I wanted to help out in any way I could. Now that GameBlast is tomorrow, we’ve arranged how we fit into all of this!
One last round-up style article before we really get underway for the year, I thought now is the opportune moment to talk about some anime that we think should be worth checking out at some point this year. This article will contain a few new titles, as well as a bunch of new series. We’ll tell you roughly when you can expect each of these series, but it’s hard to tell where each of these will turn up, so I can’t promise they’ll all appear on Crunchyroll. Right, with that introduction out of the way with, read on to see if your most anticipated anime of 2019 has made our list – and if not, come tell us!
January 1st! Happy New Year everyone! It’s a new day, it’s a new beginning and y’know, I feel like this is going to be a fantastic year for us all. I think our group’s going to go from strength to strength and I think that we’re going to have a great year for the website. But that’s not all – I feel like this is just going to be an all round good year. So strap yourselves in, we’re going to go for a time-travelling journey for what we’re hoping to do in 2019 – And hopefully you’ll be joining us for the whole ride.
It’s been a while since I posted a genuine cosplay article on here, because in all honesty, I’ve been very lackadaisical with getting on with costumes. Not because I’m disinterested or even disorganised, but actually I’ve found that I haven’t had the proper motivation to make a whole costume. 2019 at first seemed like it was going to be even worse for me, I will not be attending any major UK conventions, which is a really sad thing to say. Instead of being down in the dumps about that, it’s given me a bit of an idea. Instead of wasting my New Years’ Resolution on the usual guffins, I’m going to vow to up my cosplay game.
Yes in 2019, the video game scene will keep on growing with plenty of new Intellectual Properties (IPs) and, of course, a bunch of sequels and remakes. In the past 15-20 years, remakes have been such a prevailent part of the video game culture, that really they deserve mention in these types of articles. So today, I’ll share with you the games that I think are going to be worth checking out next year. These will be anything, from new IPs, sequels and remakes. I’ll separate out remakes from new IPs and sequels.
All of the GeekOut Meetups for 2018 are over with. That’s it, there’s no more this year. We’re not doing a New Years Eve special this year in Bristol, so we’ll be back in 2019! Joel and I have been hard at work to try and get the perfect meets arranged for the new year. As ever, we want to make sure we deliver the best monthly geeky events and we will stay free to attend. There are some changes coming for the Shrewsbury folk, with some changes to Monty’s Tower, but other than that we’re going to be having another awesome year of events. Read on to find out when our events for next year are and what the general themes are.
There’s no secret about it; Marvel and DC have been throwing films at us like it’s nobodies business. We’ve been getting cinematographic treats, heroes we didn’t expect to see on the big screen and more. In 2019, this trend is looking to continue once more, as we’re going to get more superhero and supervillain movies which’ll be worth checking out. However, we’re not only getting comic films, but indeed more great geeky films to look forward to in the coming year. As such, I thought I’d take a look at some of the upcoming releases and talk about the ones that I think should be interesting to us geeks.
Discord has undergone some drastic changes this year, from being purely about a chat environment, to selling games. Meanwhile, we here at GeekOut Media haven’t really done a lot to ensure that our Discord channel evolves with us. In all honesty, it’s something I’ve been meaning to fix up for quite some time… So, in the new year, we’ll introduce a few new changes to our server. Join us as we look at what we’re going to do in 2019.
When was the last time I did one of these? Ok, nothing since September, a fair amount has happened since then. Around the middle of October there was an incident that slowed progress a little, and with Christmas on the way there hasn’t been a great deal of time to advance a few projects that are in the pipeline – in some cases since July – but there has at least been notable progress. In the absence of a major summer anime convention, I’m finding I’m looking more for opportunities to spend time with the same old crowd I hang out with there, rather than some new big event to fill the time. However, there’s no denying that a gaping hole has been left in the Geek Calendar for 2019, and it may seem odd to take this as an opportunity, but I an item to tick off the bucket list, and next year may be the year to do it.
