It’s that time of year once more, where the horrifying, the dead and the damned become a part of our every day. Here at GeekOut Bristol, we like to celebrate Halloween a little bit early, so come and join us for our Spectre-Waltz!
Another GeekOut Bristol Meet has come and gone, but don’t be dismayed, we’ll be back next month. Whilst there were a number of Muggles about the Old Market Tavern, the venue helped us put on a magical event. There were plenty of Hogwarts House special drinks, one for each house, as well as a returning favourite in Butterbeer. Check below for some of our pictures of the event, as well as some preliminary information about when the next one’s going to go live.
August, that long awaited Shrewsbury meet, a whole six weeks have elapsed since last we gathered and the enthusiasm has not faded, nay it has grown. Although it’s notable that with the encroaching term-time, and so many of you retreating back to university our numbers have taken a small blow, so too will our growth from month-to-month subside for a while. Still, there is ever more to look forward to.
This month’s theme was Tengen Toppa GeekOut Lagann, which will make very little sense to those not at least vaguely into their anime. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is a ridiculously over the top anime about robots fighting moons and smashing together to make walking boat-swords. You can see the appeal. Our mechs will not be fighting anyone with boat-swords…
Muggles and wizards are welcome as we proudly present a Harry Potter inspired evening. Also, do come and try out the Butterbeer that’ll be at the bar. Mmm, delicious! But what more information can we give you than what we already know? Read on for some exclusive information about the event.
Also, check out our newest idea: Talk Geek To Me – A chance for people to show off what they’re geeky about. We’ve got our first hosts and first topic, so do check it out!
It was definitely a Bizarre kind of night on Friday, where the good folk who attended GeekOut Bristol Meet came up with some awesome stands to call their own. It was a quieter meetup, with the entire pub being somewhat quieter than usual, but that wasn’t a problem – It meant there was more space for us all to play some great games and have excellent conversation. Most of the attendees would likely agree that the quieter atmosphere made for a much more relaxing day, so come join us as we check out this month’s GeekOut Bristol Meet.
OH MY GOD!!
Get your stands out, it’s time for us to get ready for our very own Bizarre Adventure! With a new season of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure coming out later this year, it’s time for us to celebrate the ripple and of course, Za Warudo!
Oh and for any of you who don’t know what we’re on about, it’s cool – Come along and enjoy our antics anyway, as it’ll be another great night of fun and games!
Did anyone get a head-count on the day? I think we surpassed thirty which is always a pretty good month, the pre-meet was a grand outdoorsy affair, as befits the season, although gaming wasn’t ideal given the furniture.
But so many of you showed up, and so many of you put the effort into the steampunk theme of the day. Top hats, waistcoats, the finest of attire, and a couple of artistic contributions to the inventors fair. Fun, laughter, games, and general geekery, and so much to do in the long gap between now and August’s Shrewsbury Event. (more…)
No matter the political climate, nor the weather, we melted our way over to the Old Market Tavern at 2pm, for another great evening. Lots of faces, both new and old, which made for an excellent night out! We saw some exceptional costumes, even if people had to change in and out of them due to the heat. Thanks to everyone who turned up and as ever, we got some snaps of the event. From the costumes to the festivities, here is what went down at GeekOut Bristol Meet this past Saturday night.
Apologies for the late and short article, but between the recent heatwave and the workload I’ve taken on, it’s occasionally a struggle to keep up with everything, but here’s a short list of excuses.
19th July: GeekOut Shrewsbury Steampunk’d – Next Thursday, the poll for the premeet will be up shortly, there will be TWO COMPETITIONS! in case you already missed that announcement. Part of today’s job will be hastily throwing a pub quiz together, or at least starting the process. The other competition will be the “Stick Some Gears On It” Inventors Fair, present an object that has been adorned with Steampunk paraphernalia, cogs, gears, vents, pipes, and valves, then justify your invention to our panel of judges (me in different hats). We braved the infernal heat of the British Summer (or Spanish February), cowered from the hated sky-fire-disc as though it were as loathsome as its namesake newspaper, and took shelter in the loving embrace of geekdom. Indoors, with like-minded people, desperately hoping for air-con, or at least a cold drink, and a some games maybe.
Stick around for the end of this month’s run-down for important news regarding July’s GeekOut Shrewsbury… (more…)
