Hidden Bath Geek Gems

Bath is a city that is so close to Bristol and yet in the three years that I have lived in Bristol, I have only been there a few times. I decided to go and explore the city in search of a good destination for geekery and after some searching, I found such a destination. So, I persuaded Nathan from LevelUp to come along with me on a miniature adventure.

Line – The Skateboard Game – Review

Land some flip tricks, grabs and grinds to try to create the best line in this skateboarding card game brought to you by the folks at Blue Donut Studios who are based in Portsmouth and gave us a copy of the game for review at UK Games Expo 2018.

Doomsday Bots – Pre-Release Review

If you head north, past Edinburgh, you might find the seaside city of Dundee, where we find the DigiSprite team who have, up until now, been building websites and mobile games. They are trying their hand in traditional board gaming with their first product called Doomsday Bots. Their Kickstarter is going very well and I was lucky enough to get an introductory game with managing director Robyn during UK Games Expo, so I thought I would do a full review.

Pirates Of Penryn – An in depth look

I mentioned in my UK Games Expo Kickstarter Roundup that while I was at the event this year, during my lunch I was set upon by pirates. While my initial thought was that they had turned up for the Viking LARP, but not read any of the memo’s, it turns out they were a mother and son team peddling their wares. Amongst their wares was a board game called the Pirates Of Penryn, but sadly I was not able to play a game during the Expo. It took a few days and a bit of back and forth with e-mails, but Caitlin wrangled up a magic eye so that I may see a game in play and indeed take part, albeit virtually.

Check out the Pirates of Penryn Kickstarter campaign here.

UKGE 2018 – Kickstarters – Part 2

The phrase ‘so nice we will do it twice‘ comes to mind. Yep, I’m back with five more projects that I saw at UK Games Expo that will be on Kickstarter in the future, games that I declare are worth looking at. What do you mean you didn’t read Part 1? Go do so now and come back. For the rest of you, I’ve rambled enough, it’s time to kickstart this post into action (see what I did there?).

UKGE 2018 – Kickstarters – Part 1

Wow, what a weekend that was.

I’ve not been to any other board game expo to compare UK Games Expo to (although I would love to go to Spiel) but this year it felt huge. I would estimate that it was around 10-15% bigger than last year, at least my feet certainly feel like it was. There is so much to see and so much to play and Joel and I tried to do as much as we can. Let’s start with part one of two posts on Kickstarter projects that I encountered, some of these are active now and some will be sometime in the future but certainly, all of them are on my list of ones to watch or I want to invest in or I have already invested in. I’ve got lots to say, so let’s crack on!

UK Games Expo 2018 – Preview

You may remember that last year, Joel and I were able to get press passes to the UK Games Expo. Well, we at GeekOut Media are proud to announce that we have press passes for this year, too. We will be heading to Birmingham once more and spend three very full days hanging around the NEC, to cover as much as we can about the show for 2018 – and it is already looking to be bigger than ever.

Bristol Comic Con – Event Review

As I approached Brunel’s Old Station, I managed to mostly dodge the tail of a large animatronic Raptor as it swished it’s tail back and forth through the crowd outside the station, some of who were just waiting for a bus. Somewhere inside of the large beast must have contained a person, who was no doubt sweating profusely. It approached people of all ages and was very gentle with people of a younger age, who might have been scared.

Upon entering the arena, you could already see there were people from all walks of life and of all ages. It’s always a lovely reminder that the fandoms traverse all ages and all manners of people.

Bristol Comic Con 2018 preview

Sometimes I travel a fair distance to attend things that might be of interest to our community; but this weekend I’m attending an event right on my doorstep here in Bristol. Yes, it’s time for Bristol Comic Con which takes place this Sunday 8th April and GeekOut Media will be attending to document the occasion.

Airecon 2018 Gallery

Last week, Chris wrote about his time at AireCon 2018. Last week, we only had one image. This week, we have all of the images from Chris’ trip to AireCon 2018. For the board game fans out there, this convention looks like a right blast! Bringing people together over a good board game, as well as great conversation is truly something that we here at GeekOut Media believe in. To see the spirit of AireCon in all of it’s glory, check out the full gallery below, along with an interview Chris managed to find the time to conduct there. For the serious fan or the casual observer of board games and what it means to be an analogue gamer, this convention looks like it’s a must!
