GeekOut Bristol Meet – October 12th: Spectre-Waltz
It’s that time of year once more, where the horrifying, the dead and the damned become a part of our every day. Here at GeekOut Bristol, we like to celebrate Halloween a little bit early, so come and join us for our Spectre-Waltz!
FOODIE PRE-MEET Times TBC (TBC):
As ever, we love a good nomming session before GeekOut Bristol Meet, so stay tuned and we’ll have the food poll up on our Facebook event page later today (Sunday 23rd)!
MAIN EVENT: 14:00-Midnight (Old Market Tavern)
I was working in the lab, late one night, when my eyes beheld an eerie sight – The number of fellow geeks began to rise, quite suddenly, to my surprise. They did the waltz; they did the Spectre-Waltz!
This is an anything goes event, in the spirit of Halloween. If you want to get your Halloween-y spirit on early, come and join us for a night of fun and festivities!
Food & drink can NOT be brought in with you to the Old Market Tavern. If you are caught with food and drink on the premises, you will be asked to leave until you’ve disposed of your food or drink.
There will be a food menu at Old Market Tavern in the evening! The food is cheap and it’s delicious – usually available from 6pm.
Final note: If you are asked for ID by the bar staff, we will not vouch for your age – You must provide ID.
BOARD GAMES (& a dash of video games)
As always, we’ll have a large selection of board games available, so please do check out what we have:
– Bears vs Babies
– Bucket of Doom
– Cards Against Humanity (UK Edition + Expansions 1, 2 and 3)
– Cash n Guns
– Exploding Kittens
– Harry Potter Trivial Pursuit
– Jungle Speed
– Love Letter
– Pokemon Monopoly
– Rogues to Riches
– Star Trek Settlers of Catan
– Three Wishes
– Unusual Suspects
– Zombie Munchkin
AND MANY MORE!
We won’t be bringing every game listed above with us: If there’s a specific game you want to see, please let me know in the comments below.
Talk Geek To Me: TBC (6pm-7pm)
Part of being a geek is to share our experiences with one another; so if you’ve got something you’d like to have a platform to demonstrate your skills in, please get in touch! Last month, we had Ben & Alex show folk how YuGiOh! works, so hopefully, there’ll be more interesting talks in the making! Who knows? Perhaps I’ll do one of these myself.
Addendum: If we don’t get an entry for this, then we’ll not force this, cause, y’know, that’s cool. You can all go party and play hard instead. It’s like you’re all busy, being geeks or something! I wonder if anyone will read this addendum?
COSPLAYERS (Group Cosplay Picture: 9pm)
Halloween and cosplay: They go hand in hand, right? For everyone whose around for a bit of Halloween-y goodness, come join us and share your amazing creations. Hey, even if you didn’t make your costume, come and get your picture taken with us!
*CHANGING FACILITIES* If you want to change into a costume when here, please note there are no changing facilities. There are just standard toilet cubicles – Which are fine to change in, but you might want to consider this first.
COMPETITION: Halloween Costume Competition (8pm-9pm judging, 9pm results)
Well, as it’s for Halloween, how could we NOT have a competition themed around what you come dressed as? Yes, prizes for the best dressed Halloween-inspired outfits. But uh, remember, it’s still going to be early October, so do note our changing facilities note above!
1st: £25 Cash, a GeekOut Poster
2nd: £15 Cash, a GeekOut Poster
3rd: £10 Cash, a GeekOut Poster
Of course, we also like to give out physical prizes. As this is our Halloween inspired event, I figured the physical prizes had to be something befitting that of the season of mischief. I’ve not procured them yet, but we’d look to give out:
- A £20 voucher for Coscraft
- A copy of Timber & Bolt’s version of Werewolf
- A tub of Haribo Starmix sweets… Yum!
As is our new tradition for the physical prizes, first place gets first dibs of the item they want. Second place gets an item of choice out of the two left, before the third place winner gets the remaining item. This new system has gone down a treat, so hopefully there’ll be no tricks involved with this one!
As part of our commitment to being a great night out, we do not discriminate based upon age, disability, gender, race, religion or sexuality. If at any point you feel you need to speak to someone about another’s actions, please grab the host (Timlah) and we’ll sort it out!
Or alternatively, sign up on Facebook.
