Top 10 Complicated Plots

GeekOut Top 10s

In film and TV, a complicated plot makes for a harder viewing experience, except for dedicated viewers. Meanwhile, in video games, a plot can get more complex with the more elements added to it. Whatever your reason for wanting to view something that’s complex, we hear you. We thought about what it means to be complex; be it complex due to the length, the twists, the characters, the setting or otherwise – here are our Top 10 Complicated Plots.

Beginner’s Cosplay Guide #2: Tools of the Trade

Cosplay is a crazy craft; cosplayers all begin somewhere and the question is where? How does someone start cosplaying comfortably? Who can cosplay? What are the etiquettes behind cosplay and what does a cosplayer need to know? Can someone with an unsteady hand become a cosplayer? Can someone who has never sewn-up a hole create stunning works of art? What do you need to get started? In a series of mini-guides, I hope to quell some of these questions and more.

Review – Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes

Wizards of the Coast continue their current run of guides as penned by some of their historical giants. Volo, Xanathar are names you might not know if you’re only familiar with the core rule books, but Mordenkainen should be a name familiar to even those with a passing knowledge. You might recall Mordenkainen’s Magnificent Mansion, Mordenkainen’s Sword, or Mordenkainen’s faithful hound, or even his Magnificent Emporium if you got into 4e in the same way I did (still some interesting magic items in there by the way, worth a read for the ideas).

Scattered with his rather ominous notes, the Tome of Foes discusses some of the greater conflicts in D&D history, the parties involved, and what horrors lurk beyond the world, awaiting those who would dare rise to the challenge. My copy arrived last week, here’s what I thought… (more…)

Doomsday Bots – Pre-Release Review

If you head north, past Edinburgh, you might find the seaside city of Dundee, where we find the DigiSprite team who have, up until now, been building websites and mobile games. They are trying their hand in traditional board gaming with their first product called Doomsday Bots. Their Kickstarter is going very well and I was lucky enough to get an introductory game with managing director Robyn during UK Games Expo, so I thought I would do a full review.

Review – Luke Cage Season 2

The first season of Netlfix’s Luke Cage was a bit of a dud firework, got off to a promising start but once the villain changed from Cottonmouth to the hitherto mysterious Diamondback, things went more than a little south. One bulletproof man against a criminal empire was interesting, Diamondback was weird and a bit dull, and despite the tech he brought with him he was simply not as scary as Cottonmouth and Black Mariah united.

Episode one of season two kicks off the season with renewed promise, but there’s a problem that I’m struggling to put my finger on.

Anyway, keeping up with my habit of reviewing each series, here’s what I thought of Luke Cage Season 2/Defenders Season 9. A Mild Spoiler Warning is in effect. (more…)

Discord’s New Games Hub Update

For those of you who have used Discord at some point in time, you may have heard that an update that came in last week introduced a Games Tab. This hub gives convenient quick links to all of your favourite titles that you’ve got installed. Further to that, it gives you news and an insight as to what all of your friends are up to in the world of video games. Having now used it for a number of days, there are a few things I’ve got to say about it: some positive, some… not so much.
