Geek Proud, GeekOut.

The One Liner Challenge

The One Liner Challenge is a blog challenge set up by The Awkward Book Blogger, which actually is a little bit different. Instead of answering questions about yourselves, as a blogger, you try to make one-liners, either funny or as a summary of at least five books, manga, anime or games. I’m not huge on these blog games, but considering the types of articles we write here at GeekOut South-West, I thought it was a rather good idea. So for once, I’m taking part in a blogger challenge – and this is going to be a lot of fun.

First of all, thanks a lot to The Lawful Geek from The Mental Attic, for posting this specific article. You’ve tagged me in one of these tag games and, for once, I feel obliged to actually take part in them. A lot of you don’t know this about me, but I’m not big on blog tag games/blogger awards (which are what I mean by tag games in general). When I got my first tag in one, I adored it, I genuinely did. Then another came, which was great… And another… And hoo boy, did it ever escalate quickly? I started getting tagged like it was a game of Hot Blogtato! That’s a new game, I just made it up, please steal that IP… And then tag me in it and watch me scream. Anyway, back to the point of this article.

This was a rather cute idea, set about by The Awkward Book Blogger, who has truly reminded me that we haven’t done enough literature reviews recently. I’ll be booting up my Kindle once again in hopes to get some literature reviews out there, so watch this space. In the mean time, this article is in response to Kevin tagging me – And here are the rules, explicitly copy-pasted from The Lawful Geek.

  • Accept and thank your challenger(s) by linking back to their post.
  • Make a post of one-sentence summaries/roasts of at least five books/manga/anime/games.
  • No spoilers!
  • Link back to The Awkward Book Blogger so she can see your post.
  • Challenge as many or as few people as you want!

Since I appear to be in a jovial mood, I think I’ll be answering these with a pinch of salt. So, you want at least five? Great. Let’s do at least 5 of each for Anime/Manga, Books, Video Games and Board Games. I’ve set myself up to do a lot of writing, haven’t I?

Anime/Manga

Fullmetal Alchemist

A teenager with height, religion and authority issues is mistaken to be a walking suit of armour until the very end.

Inuyasha

When a human woman and a dog demon love each other very, very much.

Tiger & Bunny

DRINK PEPSI NEX.

Trigun

I can’t fathom how insurance companies got it so wrong about Vash the Stampede.

DragonBall Super

PLUS ULTRA– Wait, sorry, wrong anime.

Taletop Games

Exploding Kittens

Russian Roulette has never been so adorable!

Monopoly

I never cared about having friends, anyway.

Machi Koro

Just buy all the purple and red cards, you’ll be adored even more than you were in Monopoly!

Operation

For added difficulty, use a live patient.

Warhammer 40,000

Everyone loves the Orks, but you have to play as Space Marines because they just love to win!

Books

Ready Player One

Ready Player One Front Page

When Virtual Reality meets Augmented Reality and all the bad things happen.

The Colour of Magic

Being a tour guide really doesn’t pay all that well.

Every Make-Your-Own-Adventure Book

When one bad ending just wasn’t enough for the authors sadistic side.

Twilight

I want to suck your blood, but only after I tell you about how dangerous I am.

Epic of Gilgamesh

Patrick Stewart retold this best in an episode of Star Trek.

Video Games

Tekken 7

When a man is thrown off a cliff by his own father, he decides to throw daddy dearest into a volcano.

Clone Hero

I was disappointed that this wasn’t about cloning people until they gained superhuman properties, but at least I can rock!

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask

Honestly, I’d be fine with Deku Link being the default Link.

Rogue Legacy

Your mother and father made sure you would grow to be stronger than them, but at you’re also fabulous!

Final Fantasy IX

A tailed boy faces another tailed boy who is a lot prettier, in a fight to determine who the true destroyer of worlds is?

Well then, I don’t really know many people who I’d tag in these sorts of things. So you know what, I’m only going to tag a few great bloggers:

  • The Otaku Judge – Your writing has always been a joy to read; plus you’d be good at roasts!
  • Karandi – With your blog of 100 Word Anime, I’d feel that this would be a perfect challenge for you?
  • KillerRobotics – Your content is always fascinating and who said this couldn’t be extended to programming books?

Of course, the three of you do not need to get involved, if you don’t want to. However if you do, don’t forget to link back to this one so I can see what you all post! But that’s it from me – I hope everyone reading today’s article enjoyed my one-line descriptions, but did I get any of them oh so wrong? Let me know your thoughts and opinions of my one-liners in the comments below, or over on Facebook and Twitter.
