Geek Proud, GeekOut.

UK Games Expo 2018 – Preview

You may remember that last year, Joel and I were able to get press passes to the UK Games Expo. Well, we at GeekOut Media are proud to announce that we have press passes for this year, too. We will be heading to Birmingham once more and spend three very full days hanging around the NEC, to cover as much as we can about the show for 2018 – and it is already looking to be bigger than ever.

The show this year runs from 1st – 3rd June and tickets for the show are available to buy now, in three flavours:

  • SINGLE DAY TICKET: Adults £13, Young Adult (11 to 15 years) £8. Family £35.
  • TWO DAY TICKET: Adults £23, Young Adult (11 to 15 years) £15. Family £60.
  • THREE DAY TICKET Adults £30, Young Adult (11 to 15 years) £20. Family £80.

Buy yours directly from the UKGE website!

RPG’s Galore

I’m not sure how the rest of the GeekOut staff feel about this, but Modipius has announced that they will have beta versions of the 5th edition of Vampire The Masquerade RPG available to play, which I’m quite excited about. The book is due to be shipped from August this year, so plenty of time for you to start planning a Halloween Vampire RPG special.

Not into Vampires? Fine, are spaceships more your thing? Well if they are then you might be excited to hear that there is an Elite Dangerous RPG, and they too will be at UKGE. I’ve owned a copy of Elite Dangerous since launch and due to its hardware specs, I’ve still never played it, so this might just be my chance.

Spaceships not your thing either? Well, how about the products from Rowan, Rook and Decard who will also be attending, they created the awesome (free) one page RPG Big Gay Orcs, or the fantastically amusing Bear-related Honey Heist.

Of course, no RPG section would be complete without the mighty Paizo that will have playtests of the new edition of both Pathfinder and StarFinder

Board Games & Events

Taken at last years UKGE. Check out last years gallery!

The list of board game developers is also quite something. I personally will drop by the stands of both Board & Dice and Phalanx to see what they have on offer. We met them last year and they were genuinely lovely people. Also on my list are Hub Games; I have to go talk to them about an idea that I have with Rory’s Story Cubes, just to check they are okay with it.

Event-wise it’s also going to be a jam-packed three days; I think even if we had another reporter going, we still could not cover everything. There is Knightmare Live that I went to last year and thoroughly enjoyed. Tom Crosbie is performing his “You can’t polish a nerd” show, John Robertson with the live-action text adventure show The Dark Room, and readings from the one and only Ian Livingstone and that is just a sample of what is happening.

I get the feeling that I am going to need to have a long lie down when I get back to Bristol.

And So Much More!

I’d really like to see if I can get an interview with one of the volunteers this year; I managed to bump into one last year by accident and at the time, unfortunately, I did not have my recording equipment with me to get an insiders view. It’s the kind of event I could actually see myself volunteering for. If you are intending to volunteer for UKGE this year, then how about you give us an insiders view?

The exhibitor list is still being finalised and we should have a final list in our inboxes somewhere around the 21st May. Have a look yourself at the Exhibitor List, the RPG Events, and the Entertainment Events and let us know if there is anything specific you would like us to try and cover. Send suggestions via the comments section, or over on Facebook and Twitter.
