Geek Proud, GeekOut.

GeekOut Bristol Meet – April 8th: ANIME, OH ANIME

Anime is great, don’t you agree? It doesn’t matter what your tastes are; action, comedy, romance, you name it and anime has covered your favourite genre. They’ve also got genres you’d probably not think about normally, ranging from slice-of-life to magical girls (and boys!) But whatever your tastes in anime, or indeed your tastes in art are, we’ll be hosting another GeekOut Bristol Meet on April 8th, for another great night out filled with geeks and their favourite geekdoms. So whether or not you’d call yourself an otaku, a weeaboo, or if you know absolutely nothing about anime, come along and have a look at the fun and games we’ve got planned for our next Bristol meetup.

Pre-Event (12:00-13:50)

As always, we’ll be eating somewhere before we go to our usual haunt of the Old Market Tavern. So if you’re looking to join us for some food before we head on over to the main event from 2pm, then why not consider voting on our poll for this month? The choices are between Pizza Express, Wagamama’s and Franky & Benny’s. If you want some food before we go to GeekOut, then vote on the poll today.

Main Event (14:00 – Midnight)

The part you’ve all been waiting for – It’s time to talk about what’s new at this months GeekOut Bristol Meet, what the emphasis is on and how our theme will impact the night. So buckle up and get reading, it’s time to take you through the day before it actually happens. Hmm, sounding like sone Steins;Gate malarky here.

Look at all of these people on Quiplash!

– Bucket of Doom
– Cards Against Humanity (UK Edition + Expansions 1, 2 and 3)
– Cash n Guns
– Chess
– Goat Lords
– Harry Potter Trivial Pursuit
– Jungle Speed
– Magic: the Gathering
– Pokemon Monopoly
– Rogues to Riches
– Scrabble
– Zombies!!!

And for this months brand new game, we introduce to you an anime board game: Code of Nine, a game where only a few of you remain – You have a secret goal which you need to reach in five rounds, which is different to everyone elses goals.

Also, bring along your devices – Quiplash and Drawful 2 are played throughout the day. These are games where you connect with your smartphones or tablets (Or anything that can connect to a browser really). We also sometimes play other games, such as Worms and people with 3DSes can pick up StreetPasses and of course play games with other 3DS players.

We will attempt to bring back our GOCade for this event as well; Memory and development of it permitting!

GeekOut Cosplay Competition 1302 23

It’s an anime theme, so cosplay is heavily encouraged for this meetup. If you come along in cosplay, I’ll make sure to get some snaps of you to feature on this website in a gallery. If you’d like an actual photoshoot which you can use to feature on your own pages, just let me know and we’ll get that arranged too. I should be attending dressed up as the half-demon dog, Inuyasha. Now, where on earth am I going to put my Tessaiga?!

One of our most unique features is our Book & Comic Swap, a collection of books and comics are strewn across our table in the conservatory available for people to take a book, or to leave a book for others. These are books that have been donated, or are from my old repository. Pick up or borrow a book and get reading!

PLEASE NOTE: Books you saw last month might not be present this month, unless you have a specific request for books. A new request system will be put in place, in case you want a book to be present to take home or just to browse whilst at the GeekOut Bristol Meetup.

We’re one of the geekiest events in the South-West. We get people together to play board games and video games, share a pint and discuss what they enjoy in geekdom. Books, comics, music – Anything that you’re passionate about, you’ll be sure to meet fellow geeks who are into the same thing as you!

We do not discriminate – But if you ever find you have a problem with anything at the event, just let the host (Timlah) know and he’ll sort it out!

COMPETITION (Abridging the Gap)

Space Patrol Luluco, by Trigger, the creators of Kill La Kill

This months competition is a fandubbing/abridging challenge. We’ll have a one minute clip of an anime for you to watch and we’ll get you to come up with your funniest dialogue based upon the scene. It’s going to be outrageous, so make sure you enter the competition this month. We’ll record each of the clips, put it over the anime in question and then we’ll play them back and judge them as a small group. If you’d like to be part of the judging panel, then just let us know on the night.

We’ve not yet decided on the physical prizes (Although I’m currently sorting those out, so an update on that should be live on our Meetup and Facebook event pages soon.) Other than the physical prizes however, we’re also going to give away…

More on this to be confirmed soon!

1st Prize: ???, £25 cash, 3 Steam games from our list and a GeekOut Poster of your choice.

2nd Prize: ???, £15 cash, 2 Steam games from our list and a GeekOut Poster of your choice.

3rd Prize: ???, £10 cash, 1 Steam game from our list and a GeekOut Poster of your choice.

Note: There will be more prizes to come!

We’re going to make sure this one is mega-Kawaii! It’s going to be super sugoi! Ahem, that’s about the bredth of my knowledge there, so sorry about that. But even though we’re going to be talking about anime a lot, that’s not all that we do. We’re going to be gaming, we’re going to be chatting, we’re going to have drinks and we’re going to share books, comics and more. For now however, that’s all there is for the next GeekOut Bristol Meetup’s itinery. If you’re looking to get involved, then please do leave us a comment below, or over on Facebook, Twitter or Reddit.
