DC vs Looney Tunes..?
The title says it all folks, that’s right – if you’ve not heard the news, then you’re certainly missing out on some cartoon capers. DC are producing a bunch of comics where their heroes and villains will be facing off against the heroes and villains of Looney Tunes. Does it sound too gimmicky to be true, or do you think this goofy idea is too good to be true? Well, let’s go into some detail about what we know about these comics so far and what there is to look forward to in the coming months as we wait for more information.
When I first saw the comic covers for these presumably stand-alone titles, I didn’t know what to make of them. I mean, on the one hand, amazing that we’ve got the Looney Tunes, something that I’m sure all of us grew up with as kids… On the other hand, the heck are they doing by turning them into dark, gritty comic sources? With that said, I’m so glad that they’re going through with this, if for no reason than to see Marvin the Martian vs Martian Manhunter. Seriously, look at the cover art of that one – It’s going to be a comic that I’d invest in for myself – and possibly only take along to a GeekOut Bristol Meet under the premise that they give that one back once they’ve all finished reading it!
Now to the DC aficionados amongst you, this has happened at least once before. In 2000, Superman and co met the Looney Tunes for a four-part miniseries, which we can only assume was enough of a success – As otherwise, you’d think they’d not try it again. However, in the 2000 comics, they left the Looney Tunes relatively intact regarding their appearance. However, now in 2017, they’re about to change the looks of some of the much beloved characters, such as Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd. This is going to be a showdown of villains and heroes in a way that we didn’t really expect – But we’re a-okay with that!
Batman vs Elmer Fudd: Now I don’t know what to expect here. One’s a crime-fighting billionaire, the other one’s huntin’ rabbits. I mean, I can’t see any logical way that Elmer can gain the upperhand on ol’ bats, but I’m happy to see where this one goes.
Jonah Hex vs Yosemite Sam: This one is the battle of the western gunslingers and actually, as excellent as Jonas is, the pure and unadulterated anger and aggression that Yosemite has could tip the favor in the little red hairball.
Martian Manhunter vs Marvin the Martian: How can this one go wrong?! Look at how wonderful the artwork is for this one! Seriously, I don’t care who comes out on top, this one is freaking excellent!
Lobo vs the Roadrunner: Meep! Meep! No way can Lobo win this one, even if he is a gritty biker.
But we couldn’t wrap up this article without saying just one more thing…
Th-th-th-that’s all folks!
Let us know what you think in the comments below, or over on Facebook, Twitter or Reddit. Will you be investing in these, or are they a bit too gimmicky for your liking? Do they have a place for a serious comic collection? Or will you stick to your usual order of the next issue of Superman, Batman or Harley Quinn?
