GeekOut Bristol Meet – May 13th Gallery
May day, May day, it’s over again! One more month has passed us by and another GeekOut Bristol Meet has happened. But don’t fret, it’s time for us to look towards a brighter future, start to announce our next event and of course, look through all of the photos taken for this past Fridays meetup. It was an absolute belter!
Yes it’s true, another GeekOut meetup has come and passed us by. When I started to advertise this one, I was a little bit worried that we’d get less than usual coming to this one – Around 20 or 25, or something like that. Whilst the numbers aren’t everything, they’re a pretty good sign that a meetup is going well in general. I’m pleased to announce that this meetup however achieved our newest record of 62 people all at the Old Market Tavern to come and GeekOut. That’s absolutely astonishing – Thank you to everyone who attended, it really means a lot seeing so many people who are clearly having a great time.
We started the day in Chimichanga at Cabot Circus with about 13 of us showing up there at some point for the 2 hours prior to GeekOuts official start time. What was really nice was the range of people who joined us – We had men and women, new attendees, regulars and some who have come back for their second or third. It’s always nice seeing people at the food meetups and for the first time in ages, I had to book the table – and I almost didn’t book it big enough! We had a table for 12, but there was enough seats for 13 and the last person joined us with just half an hour before we moved on anyway! Totally planned – We had exactly the right amount of spaces.
Then at 2pm, we moved over to the Old Market Tavern which all of the stuff was already at. Whenever a GeekOut starts, it’s lovely seeing just how quickly people want to get in and playing games. They want to mingle, they want to meet people – They want to know why they should be at GeekOut and who else is around. Our regulars are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met in my life, so thank you to all of you – You make people feel incredibly welcome and I couldn’t have asked for a nicer bunch of geeks.
Our theme for the month was Bad Luck – and that meant I was dressed up like a black furred cat boy of sorts. It was amusing – though my wig definitely hindered me at times. Hmm. We also had pictures of black cats all over the walls. One was even on the ceiling! The Old Market Tavern agreed to us doing this – so thanks guys, it was much appreciated! Speaking of the Old Market Tavern, they also funded our competition, which saw us having £60 in cash prizes, as well as more goodies! Thanks again guys – and our overall winner of the geek quiz was Jason from VidyaSauce! The quiz was incredibly hard, so why not try the quiz for yourself? If you do the quiz yourself, please feel free to send me your answers. The winning score was 21/45. It was a notoriously hard quiz – on purpose! It was interesting, to say the least.
I was fed shots. Many beers too. I was pretty content with how much I had to drink, so a big thanks to Jake who took care of me! With this all said and done now, our next meetup will be on June 11th. Unfortunately, it’s the same day as one of the Anime League meetups, however we’re not going to be in the same area as them, so hopefully we’ll not interrupt their meetup too much. Best of luck to them, but if you’re interested in knowing more about their meetup, please check out their Facebook event page. Of course, we always hope people attend our events – But if you’d like to join in with the AnimeLeague fun and festivities – Please do! I used to love running the meetups for them and I can see that their meets have gotten even bigger!
That’s all for this month – If you were there, why not leave us a comment below? Alternatively, please check us out over on Facebook where we’ve passed 300 likes this week, Twitter where we’re over 1,400 followers, or our Subreddit which actually saw a Redditor join us at GeekOut this week – Nice to see our message is spreading. As always, thanks for reading and see you soon for the next events summary!
