Flashback: GeekOut Meetups of 2015
With our last GeekOut Bristol Meetup for 2015 on the way, I thought it’d be nice to have a quick look back at the year in GeekOut meetups. In this post, I share some of my personal favourite images of the meetups, as well as talk about how the events have gone so far this year and what I’m aiming to do next year.
Tuesday marks the first of December, which is scary to think about. I mean, GeekOut the website and the meetup group is over 2 years old already. This just reaffirms that we’re here to stay for the ride and since our numbers keep rising, I think we’re doing something right. But we want to do more… We need to do more. As a community, as a website and as a meetup group. We want our attendees not only to leave them wanting more, but to share with friends and family. We want people to shout out there that it’s not about watching, it’s about participating.
These guys have participated:
To try and get more out of these events, I’m beginning to realise that cash is becoming a troublesome issue. It’s not something I wanted to do, but I feel with the size of the meetup (We’ve got over 700 members on Meetup, over 1,160 followers on Twitter and 214 Facebook likes as of the time of writing), I need to start getting investments into the group. That means I need to create a new site at some point, to mimic the ever changing face of GeekOut. This’ll be ported over as is to another site, but we’ll keep many core features of the website in tact. Plus, we’ll be selling our GeekOut Goat Poster very soon!
Thank you to everyone who has attended the Bristol meetups this year. I hope to see you all again in the new year. However, before then, we’ve got just one more event for 2015 and it’s the most planned out meetup I think I’ve organised. So if you’re in Bristol or the surrounding areas on Saturday 5th (For the event on Meetup click here. For the event on Facebook click here) and feel like checking us out, then please don’t hesitate to come to The Phoenix at midday, then Old Market Tavern at 5pm. Remember everyone: Geek proud, GeekOut.
As always, please leave your comments below, over on Facebook and on Twitter. Let me know: What would you like to see from these meetups, if you were an attendee or not. Is there anything more we should explore? Let us know your thoughts and join in the conversation.
