GeekOut Plays Stonekeep – Episodes 10 & 11

Stonekeep is a classic RPG adventure game. You take the helm of Drake, a brave young man who saw his home ripped apart before his very eyes by the evil Khull-Khuum. Drake is encouraged by the Goddess Thera to defeat Khull-Khuum by returning to his home of Stonekeep. Khuul-Khuum however has other plans, as he imprisons Thera. Join Timlah as we play though this exciting classic adventure.

In this weeks GeekOut Plays, I manage to lop the top bit of the videos off. Aren’t I smart?

Episode 10 – Shoo Snakes Don’t Bother Me

In this episode of GeekOut Plays Stonekeep:

  • I run into a lot of snakes.
  • I kill a lot of snakes.
  • I have a lovely chit-chat with the audience.
  • I use the journal a lot…
  • And I pick on Farli.

Episode 11 – The Cylinder Has A Use

Episode 11 is already here (How is this going by so quickly?!) Here’s what it looks like:

  • We uncover a bucket.
  • We kill way more snakes.
    • They kinda look like mini Loch-Ness Monsters.
  • There’s a use for that bucket after all.
  • I edit out a lot of boring stuff.
  • ‘Quirky Dog’ makes a return
  • We find out what that Cylinder is for – And it relates to something I did not think about, but makes so much sense!

As always, let me know what you thought of these episodes in the comments below, over on Facebook and Twitter. Whilst you’re at it, please remember to go and subscribe to our YouTube channel and show us some support. These episodes are fun to make, but there’s a lot of work involved. Next week, I’ll do an article on how I make my episodes and the work that goes into them. Thanks again!

  1. Nice spot regarding the cylinder door switch, those puzzles that involve you going back to an earlier floor to get past an obstacle on the current one have proven to be my undoing more than once in these types of games. I have a habit of writing off floors as ‘complete’ when there are still little things like that to be done.

I had a look through my own games libraries on Steam and GOG, but it’s disappointing how many aren’t listed as compatible with Linux/Ubuntu. I think the only thing that both works and that I’d actually recommend is the recent Shadowgate remake, though that’s quite similar in feel to Stonekeep.

    • Cheers, the cylinder was a happy co-incidence.

Hmm! Not heard of Shadowgate, so I might have to check that out :D more games are a good thing. My steam library has just a little under 200 games and my GOG account has about 15-20 and about 55-60% work on Linux natively (We just use WINE for the others).

Soo… Plenty of games to play on the YT channel. Next big playthrough, I am thinking of doing Final Fantasy IX, my all time favourite RPG.

      • I believe Shadowgate was originally developed for Mac in the 80s, though my first experience with the game was the GameBoy Colour remake. I remember spending a lot of money ringing up the Nintendo Hotline for help when I got stuck on it… those were the days. :P The remake was a successful Kickstarter project (one that I sadly missed at the time), and has really built on what was already a great game, while leaving all the original items and puzzles in there.

Despite being a huge fan of RPGs, I’ve actually had very little experience when it comes to the Final Fantasy franchise – the only game I’ve played through was the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance spin-off. Haven’t a clue why I’ve avoided it all these years! I look forward to your playthrough of IX, however!

      • Huh! That sounds rather interesting. I think I’ll have to check it out :) Thanks for the heads up!

Oh my word, I adore FF Tactics Advance. It’s a perfect tactics game and it’s all around fun. Yes, FFIX is fantastic and it’s all around a fantasy spectacular. Well worth it and hopefully the playthrough will do it justice. Before then though, I will invest in a real microphone, not one I got for free :P
