Rezzed Update

We’re drawing ever closer to the next time I explore the weird and wonderful world of conventions – Only this time, I’m heading off to an expo!

EGX Rezzed is so close now, that I thought I’d let you all know what I’m going to be doing different for this expo. As well as having already explained I am working on a Mega Man costume (more on that shortly), I’m looking to interview people who attend the expo, as well as interviewing the wonderful devs. I’ve reached out to a few devs with hopes to find out a bit more about them all.

As well as the usual shenanigans that I take part in such as playing games, getting people together for a cheeky pint or two and more games, I will be seriously documenting my time at the event. I hope to get some awesome interviews with developers to have a proper sit-down discussion about their games. I also hope to be able to get many an awesome picture and yes; I will be looking out for my fellow cosplayers once again for discussions.

One of the games I’m most interested in looking at is by a seriously creative veteran of the indie gaming scene; Mike Bithell. I’m hoping to be able to get a word with Mike himself and discuss narration in gaming, as well as his views on the indie gaming scene, his new game Volume and hopefully more if he’ll have me! I’ve also spoken to a wonderful team called The Dangerous Kitchen, which sounds like a recipe for an awesome chat! *Ba dum tsh?* I’m seriously excited to try out The Dangerous Kitchens game which will be available during Rezzed.

Here at GeekOut South-West, we don’t do things by halves. We want to make sure we stand out from the crowd. That’s why, I will be around the Tobacco Docks in London for EGX Rezzed between Thursday 12th until Saturday 14th dressed up like Mega Man. Take it from me, this hasn’t been easy so far but I’m making solid progress.

Firstly, let’s talk about the base body. If you reflect on the last post I made about Rezzed, I said for the base body I would need a morph/zentai suit. Well ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to announce: I now have a zentai suit! However, the problem is: There’s a huge zip on the front! Now, that’s not such a bad thing, but it stands out like a sore thumb. I’m going to have to order in some light blue lycra fabric so I can sew a flap over the zip, in hopes that I can make it stand out a bit less.

My first attempt at making a pattern for my helmet - Not dreadful... But not perfect!

I’ve still got my mega buster to make, my helmet to finish gluing together and my boots to make. Plenty of work is to be done, but I’m confident I’ve got just enough time to get this beast of a costume made. I’m thinking that if I get the time, I will add in some lovely extras, such as LED panel areas, for added robotic-ness!

I’m going to be meeting up with Ben, Kim and Phil from 1001up, so if you get a chance to come say hey – Come do so!

Have you been to an expo such as EGX Rezzed? Are you attending and want to come say hey? As always, comments in the section below, over on Facebook or on Twitter. Next time you hear about Rezzed will be when I’m there..!
