Geek Proud, GeekOut.

Merry Christmas – Timlah

Merry Christmas ladies and gentlemen, readers of GeekOut South-West and new readers alike. You’re the very reason why a post even exists today; We thought we’d reflect on what was good about this year so far. So whilst Joel looks to make years the best he possibly can make them, what did I think about 2014 in general?

It started with a bit of a whimper if I were to be honest. I just set GeekOut up and I was already nervous about where do I go from here? How often should I post? Will people care or even enjoy what I have to say? Then I realised: This is blogging, if people don’t like it, they’ll generally respond by not responding at all – Which was great news for me! I was ready for whatever the world threw at me then… But I never expected to have the year I had.

Yeah, these guys have shared chats with me... They've not been able to get rid of me since!

I met Joel at Ayacon Apocalypse, who then decided he would follow me in everything I do – For good reason, I mean have you seen my dashing good looks? Too far? Okay.

After me and Joel had been talking for a while, I decided to make the next step with GeekOut South-West. I decided it needed to be bigger and better. Well the next step was obvious wasn’t it? I had to meet even more people, just to see if they were as cool as me and Joel. Of course they were! At Kitacon, we met up with Kim and Phil from 1001-Up and we had one of the funniest games of Cards Against Humanity to date, which set 1001-Up on the party game for horrible people.

Get back in the pocket you dreadful game!

Get back in the pocket you dreadful game!

2014 has seen me go from just starting up as a blogger to a more experienced blogger, which allows me to hone my writing skills (A skill I would never have cared about prior to blogging in all honesty.)

I’ve met some amazing people and even played some incredible games, such as a few brilliant games of Hearthstone with the always witty Otaku Judge. So clearly this year has been about meeting many people and getting much done for the group and more. Oh, but what about the social group?

The social group has been getting bigger and much more active. We were approached a few times by venues who wanted to host us, but we’ve had the uncanny ability to be able to turn down some of these venues. I apologise, but my social group look to chat and discuss all things geek. We can be party animals, but we like being able to have conversation with one another. Loud music and lads on a bender don’t really interest us… I’m hoping to take to more venues early next year to discuss potential partnerships, in terms of venue and facilities for my GeekOut geeks. For the record, I would like to thank the King William Ale House for their consistently good prices and being able to accommodate us!

From humble beginnings...

From humble beginnings…

With the support of the friends I’ve gained over my time making GeekOut South-West what it is, I’ve been able to improve my skills as a cosplayer too. I look back to the amazing time I spent speaking to all the community at Anime League who have helped to make the Cosplayer Highlight series so damn special. So from me to you, here’s a Christmas treat for the new year: We’ll be bringing the Cosplayer Highlight series back, with more people and I’m going to even expand out even more. Hopefully, I’ll be able to speak to people live this time at conventions and panels, so do keep checking back for the newly reformed Cosplayer Highlight!

There’s been too much good happen to me this year, a lot of which have to revolve around GeekOut South-West. I hope you do keep coming back to our humble little blog and the social group will keep going from strength to strength, there’s a lot to be thankful for this year. So to everyone who has helped us shape GeekOut South-West to be what it is today… Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. You rock.

Santa

  1. Merry Christmas. Thanks for the mention. Those Hearthstone matches were a good laugh.
